Formulation, Development and Characterization of Sustained Release Formulation of Herbal Extracts

Aim: The aim of the present investigation is to design sustained release dosage form different extracts that will help in releasing only small quantities drug over a prolonged period time. Material and Methods: ingredients for formulations are given as Table 1 below. measured drug, HPMC, MCC NaHCO3 were mixed thoroughly using mortar pistil. granules punched into tablets direct compression technique. blank formulation (or) placebo (HPMC+ MCC+NaHCO3) polyherbal also tested FTIR Spectrometer. rate kinetics was analyzed data obtained fitted Zero order, First Higuchi model Kozmeyer Peppas model. Results: pre-formulation study results on various parameters found satisfactory. batches (F1-F12) No rat holing, capping or sticking observed during flow from hopper. maximum weight variation was±1.8%, which falls within acceptable range of±5%, hence passed test. Hardness all 4.92 5.35 kg/cm², above limit not less than 3.0 kg/cm². floating lag time ranged 35 s 50 s. From 5, it F11 has minimum total 15 h with 100.12% content. Conclusion: effect tablet analyzed, where HPMC contributed matrix, increase bulk density sodium bicarbonate initiate dissolution process.
